Khao San Road Information ::
Khao
San Road has grown from being a small side street to be the backpacker's
Capital of Thailand, if not Asia. For some reason it’s the place
that they have decide to cluster, but may be that’s due to the atmosphere
that has built up.
It’s the place to buy almost anything from crucifix to special
massages at a more affordable price than in the mainstream tourist
venues. You may want to get your hair dressed "Rasta style",
have your body decorated or your tongue (or anything else if you
are brave enough.
Spot
transsexuals, and many have got it wrong, but would you? Feeling
a little puckish why not try the snacks, from banana crepes to roasted
scorpions. Feeling a little lazy so why not watch western movies
in several of the restaurants, any time of the day. Have you ever
fancied becoming an official student or journalist; well here is
the place to buy a fake id within 5 minutes just for the heck of
it. It's one of the cheapest places in Bangkok to buy plane or bus
tickets. Should you not be able to find the right tourist information
you need head to the Police Information kiosk on Chakraphong Rd
for advices & bus schedules (a smile is optional but goes a
long way) If you are feeling physical and can take the knocks you
may want to train Muay Thai boxing. Or for a more relaxed experience,
visit temples and there are actually two nice temples in the area.
Nearly every backpacker now seems to stay in Banglamphu area, in
particular in and around Khao San Road. Indeed, with more than a
hundred guesthouses and a good central location, this area is difficult
to avoid.
Recommending
a place is however tricky as most of the guesthouses look similar,
very basic accommodation, a single bed, a small fan with shared
toilets Also, it is also likely that you will be a few "sorry,
full!" during High Season, if you arrive late afternoon or
if looking for the cheapest rooms.
More relaxed and quiet but also active at night is the area just
at the west of Khao San, around Soi Rambutri, behind a temple. This
is a popular and rather laid-back area so the cheapest rooms go
fast. For more isolation, go to the North of Banglamphu, 5minuates
walks from Khao San Rd crossing the Khlong (water canal). On the
west of Samsen Rd or North of relaxing Phra Sumen Fort's area.
